Module 01 - Mentor - Experience is the Community
Congratulations! You earned this badge by taking the time to look closely at how people experience a community and by identifying something you can do to make that experience better.
Communities are not built only in meetings, mission statements, or group chats. They are built in the small moments people remember.
This badge is not about standing at the front of a room with all the answers. It recognises someone as a mentor, who helped other people look more closely at their community, speak honestly about what was happening, and turn that reflection into action.
The earner mentored or facilitated Experience Is the Community, a module from Open Community Leadership. They guided participants in exploring how the experience of being in a community shapes whether people participate, connect, contribute, grow, and return.
Using the Community Experience Canvas and the POPCOM framework, they created space for participants to reflect on a real community, recognise patterns across its different stages, and identify one practical change that could improve the experience. The canvas examines the journey from arrival and welcome through participation, recognition, growth, safety, and return.
To earn this badge, the mentor:
* Prepared and guided an Open Community Leadership activity for other participants
* Helped participants examine a real community through the Community Experience Canvas and POPCOM lens
* Created space for different experiences and perspectives to be heard
* Supported participants in identifying what helps or prevents people from participating, connecting, growing, contributing, or staying
* Helped participants choose one practical action that could improve their community experience
* Reflected on what they learned from mentoring or facilitating the activity
This badge recognises community leadership practised through helping others learn, reflect, and take action.
